What do I think about Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who Costume?

Stood in front of a wind machine to fully expose his crimson flaps, this week saw the reveal of Peter Capalderdash's costume for the currently being filmed series 8 of Doctor Who.  The costume has met with more of a meh than a yeah, with a fanbase used to such fashion decisions as fez's, eighteen foot scarves and salad based accessories.

When the actor famous for playing stiff bureaucrats and shouthy villains graces our screens later in the year, he'll be dressed in what seems to be Charlie Chaplin's tramp costume with its tight chest hugging jacket, and trousers which seem to have got the science wrong and are bigger on the outside!.

This bland awkward fitting costume combined with the pose of Hollywood Paul Daniels impersonator David Copperfield gives us more clues about the twelfth Doctor's persona than the dramatic Capaldeyes scene from Day of the Doctor.  A scene seen by many fans as the highlight of the 50th anniversary special!

Tom Bakers footprint, too late?

I visited Leeds Castle as a boy in 1982.  A sunny day.  My memories are simple - swans, a yellow button badge with the afore mentioned aquatic bird upon it as an entry ticket, and a nicely walled castle.  I assume but can't confirm that ice cream, a can of coke and a wasp may or may not have been involved.

I can however confirm on a cold January Saturday 32 years later, I discovered that an episode of my favorite television show - Doctor Who, was filmed at Leeds Castle.  If only I had known.

Per chance to lay and touch grass 'pon which Tom Baker had stepped just four years before, to sniff pebbles which had deviated from stillness at the brush of his boot, and perhaps hold one tightly as I thought of scarf, jelly baby and curl.

And thus a tear rolls down my cheek at this missed part of my timeline, now penciled in as a flexible temporal point.  But behold a chance, an opportunity to discuss Doctor Who: The Key to Time with fellow enthusiasts and philosophers.

Here is that chance - A universal and thought provoking presentation of views and discussion, sensitivity and passion.  Please enjoy.

How to dispose of annoying e-mailers from a successful sci-fi podcast

So, as reveled last time myself and three other meandering philosophers  on all things Doctor Who were brought together on a successful Doctor Who podcast, namely Starburst Magazines Blue Box podcast.

After months of our hilarious and thought provoking emails, The bluebox team invited us to guest on their sensational show.  After the show, Starburst's head Doctor Who scribe J.R. suggested that Doc Whome, Al No and myself started our own podcast.

Well, what with promotion, recording and production meetings this podcast lark is taking up a lot of time, and has rendered us unable to contribute to Blue Box!.......Oh, I see what you've done J.R.

Well OK, I jest.  I still have a couple of gems for the Blueboxers, but until then you can sniff our own fruits on the ramblingly witty and wonderful Diddly Dum Podcast.  Available on the iTunes and The Diddly Dum Blog

A Gentle Ramble Through Time & Space

It was a family day out to see the Blackpool illuminations on a cold November Saturday in 1988 that I purchased my first copy of Starburst Magazine featuring an article on Doctor Who's latest adventure "Remembrance of the Daleks".  Twenty Six years later Starburst Magazine is still running strong and boasts four regular podcasts including the Time lord focused Blue Box Podcast.

For the last eighteen months I've been hindering the well thought out conversations of Master of Ceremonies J.R.Southall and his co-conspirators with cheap innuendo and bad jokes.  So imagine my surprise when J.R. asked myself and fellow hindermiesters  AL No and Doc Whome to appear on The Blue Box Podcast.
Perhaps J.R. thought letting us on the podcast would mute our cheek when we experienced the difficulty of trying to talk for an hour on Doctor Who so others don't have to, or just maybe he read between the lines of our emails and saw the genuine love and passion for a programme that brings us all together.
Well folks our episode of the Blue Box Podcast is here for you to see if J.R. did right letting us loose - see what you think.

what's the story sarah jane (elisabeth sladen - sarah jane smith tribute)

A few people have asked just what was Reverend Captain Hullo Porro doing before trespassing onto Starburst Magazine's Doctor Who Blue Box Podcast.  Well here is his solo spot from a live EP called "live at Wilson's Decking". (available here for just £1)

The mini album was recorded by New Magnet, the band Hullo performs in with vocalist and dancer Roger Hatts.  The song was featured on Doctorwhonews.net, and New Magnet themselves have contributed regularly to Mitch Benn's podcast.

Enjoy this tender treat from a usually cheeky chap.

Rev's Up! - Starburst Magazine's Bluebox Podcast's discretionary e-mail contributor Hullo Porro brings us his review of Doctor Who - The Time of the Doctor -

"This was a long haul for the Doctor – the oft used Terrence Dicks style description that Matt is an Old man in a Young body was lived out here with the Doctor aging, allowing Matt smith to really show off the skills that have made him one of the most enigmatic Doctors to grace the TARDIS.  Jon Pertwee may have had a young old face, but Matt Smith had young old grace!."
